Kahuna 360 Works With Mosart® Newsroom Automation to Provide Complete Multi-format Playout Solution

AMSTERDAM — Sept. 7, 2012 — Snell today announced that its Kahuna 360 video switcher is driving production for Sky Sport News HD, the first 24-hour sports news channel to serve viewers in Germany and Austria. The Kahuna 360 is driven by a studio automation solution from Mosart®, and it joins Inews, Avid® Interplay®, and Vizrt systems to provide a complete workflow for switching and playout of multi-format video and graphics sources to air.

At the 2012 NAB Show, Snell announced the launch of Momentum, a breakthrough solution for media asset management (MAM), workflow automation, and resource planning. Momentum delivers maximum control and flexibility to media and broadcast operators, enabling them to reduce operational costs by allocating resources more efficiently and making content more accessible. 

At the 2012 NAB Show, Snell will debut KudosPro, a next-generation image-processing platform that delivers high-quality image-processing capabilities in a compact, affordable, format-flexible package. The platform will be available for as little as $3,299, making it a realistic option for broadcasters, news agencies, and content providers needing to consider cost and space issues while also ensuring high-quality content to domestic and international audiences.

At the 2012 NAB Show, Snell will unveil a new 4-RU version of its award-winning Vega™ routing platform. Allowing users to configure any signal port independently for fiber or coax (copper) connectivity, and enabling any port to be configured as either an input or output, Vega offers the industry's most flexible asymmetric routing solution, now within a 192-port design.

At the 2012 NAB Show, Snell will introduce the Kahuna 360 Compact, a smaller-frame version of the company's Kahuna 360 video switcher, and one that is ideal for live production environments. Offering true 1080p switching in a 6-RU chassis, the new Kahuna 360 Compact enables a smooth and cost-effective migration from SD to HD to 1080p, making Snell's award-winning production switcher technology accessible to an even wider audience.

Snell today announced that western Spain's Canal Extremadura is using a Sirius 620 router and multiple control panels along with two MV Series multiviewers and a 2-M/E Kahuna multi-format production switcher — all linked by an Aurora router controller — to support productions at its Mérida facility. The flexibility of the integrated Snell systems allows Canal Extremadura to optimize the handling of video sources across the broadcaster's control room and studio.

At IBC2011 in Amsterdam, Snell will launch Centra Vite, a new router control and configuration tool that simplifies the setup of router installations and speeds them into operation. Centra Vite is provided free with all Snell Nucleus controlled routers.

Snell will introduce new product releases and enhancements that offer higher functionality while lowering operating costs. Highlights will include standards conversion for file-based workflows, a redefinition of the "channel-in-a-box" model, introduction of a new standard in multi-format routers, and a new approach to modular infrastructure. Demonstrations will showcase Kahuna 360, the multiformat (including 1080p) production switcher that breaks away from the tradition of fixed M/Es and supports many simultaneous productions from a single frame.
