TV Globo opts for EVS XT3 servers for HD studios and new HD truck
EVS, a leading provider of broadcast and media production systems for sports, news and TV entertainment, has announced that Brazil’s largest broadcaster, Rede Globo, has invested in EVS solutions for its HD studios in Sao Paulo and Brasilia. Globo has also chosen EVS solutions to equip its new HD truck, based in Rio de Janeiro.
EVS customer for more than 15 years, Globo has upgraded its EVS SD network at its studios in Sao Paulo with two EVS XT3 production servers and an EVS XTnano server. The new servers support a total of 22 channels and will enable Globo to migrate from SD to HD. Globo has also invested in its first EVS server for its studios in Brasilia, opting for a six-channel XT3 server with a MulticamLSM controller. The servers will be used for sports, news and entertainment production.
Globo has also opted for EVS solutions for its new HD truck based in Rio de Janeiro. The truck features five eight-channel XT3 servers, the EpsioLive graphics solution, the IPDirector suite of video production management applications, and the XFile archive solution. Using EVS’ new UMotion technology, the XT3 servers are integrated with I-MOVIX’s new X10 ultra-slow motion system, supporting up to 38 hours of ‘always-on’ ultra-slow motion. The new truck will be used to cover soccer championships as well as Globo’s largest production, the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro. EVS servers are also used in Globo’s HD truck based in Sao Paulo.
“We chose EVS solutions based on over 15 years’ experience using their broadcast production systems in our studios and trucks,” said Jose Manuel Marino, News and Sports Engineering Director, Rede Globo. “The new XT3 servers give us the speed and reliability we need for live sports and entertainment productions, while supporting our studio migration to HD.”
XT3 is EVS’ new future-proof video recording and production server. It features advanced capabilities such as eight recording/playback channels in loop mode, multi-codec native support, and embedded high/low-res media management to get the most out of any recorded frame at the highest speed and reliability. The new XT3 platform is the industry’s first server featuring six non-stop 3Gbps feed ingest and playout channel capabilities for live and near-live 3D or 3G production operations. With its new UMotion technology integrated into the XT3 server, EVS, combined with the I-MOVIX X10 ultra-slow motion system, offers the world’s first solution for live continuous recording of a 300 fps camera feed in full HD (600 fps in 720p).
“We’re very proud to continue our long-standing relationship with one of the biggest broadcasters in the world,” said Benjamin Mariage, EVS’ sales manager for Latin America. “Over the years we’ve worked closely with Globo’s team to support their most demanding productions. The fact that they rely on our solutions for their biggest and most high-profile productions is testament to the reliability of EVS systems, and their advanced capabilities like their integration with I-MOVIX’s X10 ultra-slow motion camera system.”
